Amino Welcomes UNDP to Celebrate Advances in Sustainability and Innovation in Polyurethanes

Amino celebrates with the UNDP the completion of a project that eliminated HCFC-141b from 17 companies, reducing environmental impacts in the polyurethane sector. The partnership reinforces the company's commitment to more sustainable and innovative solutions.

On December 5th, Amino had the honor of hosting representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the official delivery of the certificate marking the completion of an important environmental project. This initiative, in partnership with the UNDP, stood out for its scope and impact on the polyurethane foam sector in Brazil, serving as a milestone in the global effort to reduce gases with high Global Warming Potential (GWP) and Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP).

As a result of this project, 17 companies were converted between 2019 and 2023, and 81,411.04 kg of HCFC-141b (or 8.95 tons of ODP) were eliminated.

A Transformation Project for a Sustainable Future

In recent years, Amino has been integrating sustainability and innovation into the company’s development. Over the past few months, we began participating in the UNDP project aimed at eliminating HCFC-141b, a high-impact blowing agent used in polyurethane foam formulations. Divided into two phases, the project focused on:

Phase 1: Conversion of flexible and integral skin foams.
Phase 2: Replacement of HCFCs in rigid foams.

As a system house, Amino played a central role as an intermediary, not only converting its own processes but also mobilizing clients to adopt cleaner technologies. This “umbrella” approach enabled companies of various sizes to access innovative and sustainable solutions, with technical and financial support for adapting their production processes.

Impacts and Results

Throughout the project, Amino contributed to the transformation of dozens of Brazilian companies, facilitating the transition to formulations that meet the highest environmental responsibility standards. The new technologies employed demonstrated significant characteristics such as low GWP (Global Warming Potential) and ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential), reinforcing the commitment of both the company and its partners to the planet’s future.

This achievement not only strengthens Amino’s position as a reference in the polyurethane sector but also highlights the importance of partnerships in building a more sustainable industry. The support from the UNDP was essential in overcoming technical and financial challenges, enabling the implementation of significant changes across the entire production chain.

A Celebration of Progress

The UNDP’s visit to Amino headquarters marks the conclusion of a transformative journey. The delivery of the project’s completion certificate serves as recognition of the joint efforts of Amino, its partners, and its clients to drive innovations that extend beyond the market, positively impacting both the environment and society.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to continuous evolution, adopting sustainable and innovative practices that benefit both the market and the environment. For us, sustainable development is the path to the future.
